Life in Cairns is what you may expect for a small city in Far North Queensland - proclaimed David Attenborough’s favourite place on Earth, by the man himself. Cairns is surrounded by the oldest rainforest in the world on one side, and largest living organisms on the planet on the other. Tourists flock from all over the world, all year round to visit and see the outdoor natural beauty that lies waiting to be explored and adored.
The Great Barrier Reef is surely not only Cairns, but Australia’s most prized of possessions, attracting over 2 million people each year to its shores, who want the chance to not only see, but be submerged into one of the greatest natural wonders of the world.
Then there is the World Heritage Site - the Daintree Rainforest, just an hours drive North of Cairns. The Daintree Rainforest is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and rightly so; it is the oldest rainforest in the world, over 165 million years old, and FNQ is the only place in the world where two world heritage sires meet, creating Cape Tribulation, not only that, but it is also the only place in the world where Rainforest meets Reef.
The Daintree and The Wet Tropics are a biodiversity hotspot - home to over 600 species of vertebrate, almost 250 butterfly species, and more than 370 species of bird, probably most famous of all, the land dwelling Cassowary.
Cairns City is full of bars, restaurants, shops and cafes, meaning that you’ll never be short of home comforts, whilst still feeling like you’re living in a tropical paradise.
Yellow crested cockatoos fill the sky at daytime, and fruit bats take to the skies at night, palm trees line the streets and the sky is blue, well, at least 340 days of the year, anyways!
You can be sure that during your free time, you’ll have no problem finding things to do or see, or finding places to sit and relax, with endless beaches or creeks to choose from, you never have to spend a day at home or even stay dry, with waterfalls and swimming holes scattered all over the place, the hardest choice you’ll have to make for yourself is which beautiful piece of paradise should you explore today.
